Driver dies after crashing vehicle into river near Homer
HOMER, Alaska (KTUU) - The driver of a vehicle was killed after it crashed into the Anchor River near Homer early Tuesday morning, state troopers say.
The driver, who has not yet been identified pending next of kin notification, was found dead inside the truck, which came to rest in the water at mile 161 of the Sterling Highway, about 10 miles north of Homer.
Troopers believe the vehicle was heading north on the road when it veered into the guardrail and rolled into the river around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner for identification and to notify the family of the deceased, troopers said.
The crash forced the Sterling Highway to close “intermittently” for about two hours as troopers investigated the scene while crews recovered the vehicle.
