Deadly fire turns to homicide investigation after discovery of 3rd body in Russian Jack house fire
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A house fire that left three people dead earlier this month is now being investigated as a homicide, with the discovery of a third body in the remains of the home.
The Anchorage Fire Department initially listed two dead in the fire on Easthaven Circle, off Wesleyan Drive, on May 12 in Anchorage’s Russian Jack neighborhood, but a third body was found the next day by investigators.
The Anchorage Police Department said in a release Thursday that the body belonged to 46-year-old Esteban Pope, who they believe shot and killed a 32-year-old pregnant woman and a two-year-old girl in the home before turning the gun on himself.
Authorities have not named the victims, citing the domestic violence nature of the investigation. Police also said they believe the fire was intentionally set.
