Family identifies victim police say was shot by suspected gunman at Government Hill home
Gunman shot Anchorage attorney before being shot by police, APD says
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Two men were injured Wednesday morning in a shooting that involved police officers in a Government Hill neighborhood.
The men — one a suspected shooter and the other a victim — sustained critical injuries, according to Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case.
Anchorage police have not identified the suspect or the victim but family members confirmed to Alaska’s News Source that the victim is Anchorage attorney Steven Priddle, whose law office is located in the Government Hill home where the shooting took place early Wednesday morning.
Family members said Priddle was in surgery Thursday morning but is expected to recover.
According to the department, the shooting happened around 5:44 a.m. Tuesday on Hollywood Drive. Case said they received at least six calls from people who reported hearing gunshots in the neighborhood.
One of those calls was from a woman inside the house who reported a bullet may have grazed her on the head.
Another caller — a man now identified as Priddle — called from the same house to report he heard gunshots and screaming.
When police arrived, they began talking with witnesses outside the home who also reported gunfire.
Case said a different group of officers approached the residence and saw a man outside with a long gun. The man ignored commands and disappeared around the side of the house.
The homeowner, identified as Priddle, then came outside the house, Case said. Officers asked him to get back inside, but before he did the shooter reappeared in the front of the house and shot Priddle several times.
Case said two officers opened fire on the suspect and also struck him multiple times.
The shooting was captured on police body-worn cameras, Case said.

On Thursday morning, a man who identified himself as Priddle’s son-in-law could be seen cleaning up blood and broken glass outside the front door of the home.
Police said both men were alive after the shooting but have not released any additional information about their conditions. The man said Priddle had undergone surgery and “was recovering.”
It’s the second shooting involving police in as many days, coming less than 24 hours after a police shooting in midtown Anchorage Monday that left a man hospitalized with critical injuries. The man is accused of trying to break into an ATM and holding a female victim hostage with her hands and mouth taped up.
Case said he expected to have more information on both officer-involved shootings to release to the public early next week.
