Four rescued from top floor of abandoned building that caught fire
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - More than 30 firefighters rushed to the scene of a fire early Friday morning at an abandoned building in Spenard.
According to Megan Peters, Public Information Officer for the Anchorage Fire Department, four people had to be rescued from the top floor of the vacant building, formerly known as America’s Best Value Inn and Suites. A ladder truck was used to bring them to safety.
No injuries were reported, and the fire has been extinguished.
Crews remain on scene to help put out hotspots.
“To our knowledge, they should not be inside, there should not be anybody else occupying the building,” Peters said. “It still is an extensive fire with a lot of damage, but everybody is okay and that’s really the important thing.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and fire crews were expected to remain on scene for several hours.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
