ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - There’s a new way to give this holiday season for shoppers at the Dimond Mall in Anchorage.

A special vending machine — dubbed “giving machine” by the operator, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — allows people to make instant donations toward specific needs like providing winter boots for children, hygiene kits for the homeless, seeds for refugee farmers and even adaptive sports equipment for those with disabilities.

The gifts range in value from $5 to $100, and according to the operator, 100% of donations go directly to the participating charities. This year, people can support local nonprofits like Catholic Social Services, Lutheran Social Services of Alaska, Challenge Alaska, Love Inc. - Kenai Peninsula and Downtown Hope Center.

If one can’t visit the machine in person, people can donate online at through Dec. 31.
