ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Unalaska Fire Department recovered the body of a 28-year-old fisherman Saturday morning after he went missing earlier in the week.

The body of Jacob Riley Veeser was discovered in the water along Captains Bay Road around 10:30 a.m. Saturday after he went missing late Thursday night. Veeser was a crewmember aboard the fishing vessel Lady Alaska, according to authorities.

An online post by the police department Friday night stated that Veeser had been last seen walking down the “dolphin” dock at Unisea Inc. around midnight Thursday.

A search began for the man on Friday, but it was paused at 11:25 p.m. that night.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Alaska State Troopers, Unalaska Fire Department, and Unalaska Police Department continued their search for Veeser and discovered his body shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Next of kin have been notified. The Unalaska Police Department is following up on the death.
