Fairbanks man pleads guilty to murder and assault

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) - A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty to murder and assault on Thursday.

Takadoh Veach of Fairbanks moved forward with a guilty plea for murdering Lee Kalloch, 39, and injuring Rachel Yaska, 22. The incident took place on Jan. 18, 2022 in an apartment on Slater Street in Fairbanks. Veach was arrested four days after the murder near Nenana.

According to the Alaska Department of Law, after finding Kalloch and Yaska in a bathroom in the apartment, Veach shot through the door more than a dozen times.

Yaska received multiple gunshot wounds to her legs. Kalloch received one bullet wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Veach was sentenced to 35 years behind bars with 10 suspended.

Veach is being held in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex; his next court date is scheduled for March 24.
