JUNEAU, Alaska (KTUU) - Have you ever wondered what it might be like to live in the governor’s mansion in Juneau? You could soon find out for yourself — at least through short-term stays.

The Alaska State Legislature is considering House Bill 139, proposed by Rep. Will Stapp, R-Fairbanks, which would open the mansion up for rentals throughout the year, outside of the regular session.

If a special session were to pop up, rentals during that time would be overridden, should the bill stay in its current form.

As of press time, the Office of Gov. Mike Dunleavy had not responded to a request for comment from Alaska’s News Source.

HB 139 was brought up during a meeting of the House State Affairs Committee this week, but did not see any public testimony and was set aside for consideration in the future.

An amendment deadline was set for April 14.

You can read the full bill by heading over to the Alaska Legislature website.
