Alaska Native arts and crafts highlighted at annual bazaar
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Alaska Native Heritage Center Holiday Bazaar brings in artists and crafters from across Alaska for their three-day event.
From beads to fur, earrings to parkas, visitors had plenty of options to browse. Santa even made an appearance at ANHC while shoppers perused.
The bazaar is an annual event, but its contents change from year to year. This is bead artist Kay Wilson’s second year as a vendor.
“This year a little more open spaces, a lot more interaction with people. They’re asking questions about my artwork, how long it takes, should I price mine more than I do? Just simple questions,” said Wilson.
Many of the items found at the bazaar are one-of-a-kind, and according to the artists who craft them, that makes them extra special.
“Because it’s handmade...when we sew, we’re putting a part of ourselves into the projects,” said Jewelry Artist Tyla Rose.
