Election 2024: what you need to know for election day coverage
Important dates for Alaska’s General Election
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Tuesday, Nov. 5, is Election Day in the United States.
In Alaska, polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. First results are expected between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Tuesday.

NBC will begin election day coverage at 1 p.m. AKST; CBS begins election coverage at 3 p.m. AKST. There will be no normal afternoon and evening newscasts on Channel 2 or Channel 5 on Tuesday but there will be periodic cut-ins for local news, weather and updates on the election process in Alaska.

Important dates for Alaska’s General Election
Nov. 5 Election Day
- Deadline to mail absentee ballots/must be postmarked by this day
- If voting absentee electronically, ballots must be faxed by 8 p.m.
Nov. 15: Deadline to receive absentee ballots mailed inside the United States.
Nov. 20: Deadline to receive absentee ballots mailed from outside the United States
Nov. 20: Ranked choice tabulation begins for any race where a candidate didn’t receive 50% +1 vote.
Nov. 30: Target date to have the election certified by the State Review Board.
Dec. 17: Electors meet to cast their vote for President and Vice President.
