Family of capsized boat victims hope to continue search near Homer
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Relatives and friends of the Maynard family, who were lost aboard a fishing boat that capsized near Homer in August 2024, held a fundraiser in Texas Saturday to continue search efforts.
Search efforts for the Texas family: David Maynard, 42; Mary, 37; Colton, 11; and Brantley, 7, were unsuccessful. Now family and friends wish to fund further search efforts.
Robert Roysdon, David Maynard’s cousin, said the organization “Team Texas K9s” offered to aid in the search.
“We just want our loved ones brought home and laid to rest,” Roysdon said.
Members of Team Texas K9s knew the Maynard family personally, adding to the impact of the loss.
“When they went missing it was tragic and it touched them personally,” Team Texas K9s spokesperson Heather Ashley said.
The organization has underwater equipment, but traveling to Alaska for the search will be a new experience for them.
While the organization had planned on making the trip, Roysdon insisted on organizing a barbeque fundraiser in Temple to help with expenses.
“All we can do is just wait and see when they go and see what happens,” Roysdon said.
Team Texas K9s will send six members with dogs and equipment to search for the Maynards at the end of the summer.
