ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Guns, drugs, and port improvements are some of the items on the agenda for the Anchorage assembly Tuesday night.

The meeting is the first one after the most recent municipal elections. New members have not taken their seats yet, so assembly members are finishing up their business and their term.

Some of the items of most interest on the agenda included several pertaining to gun use and ownership. Ordinance No. AO 2025-28, sponsored by Assembly Member Karen Bronga, would require gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours of them going missing or face a misdemeanor charge.

Bronga also created Ordinance No. AO 2025-25, which would expand responsibility to parents whose students bring deadly weapons to school.

Bronga said she would be moving to suspend both items indefinitely due to a lack of support.

A potential addition to the list of illegal drugs in Anchorage might be made with Ordinance No. AO 2025-50, which would put recreational possession of Nitrous Oxide and Kratom on the list of misdemeanor drugs.

Assembly Memorandum No. AM 327-2025 would award $807,456,515 to Manson/Michels Joint Venture to replace Terminal 1 under the Port of Alaska Modernization Program. The item was postponed to a special meeting next week.

Another ordinance, AO 2025-47, to increase the Port of Alaska’s capital improvement fund is on the agenda for introduction. The ordinance proposes issuing over $1.1 billion in Port Revenue bonds to provide funds to refinance certain outstanding debt and to provide for additional funds for future capital improvements.
