‘Real life heroes’ to be honored at Red Cross ceremony

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A collection of 25 Alaskans are to be honored at the annual Red Cross “Real Heroes Ceremony,” in Anchorage on Tuesday.

The 25th annual ceremony will honor Alaskans from across the state who displayed exemplary action in saving lives and protecting others. Their actions include everything from braving fires to floods and blizzards.

The honors will be presented during a ceremony taking place in the Discovery Theater at the Alaska Performing Arts Center.

“Our Real Heroes Awards celebrates ordinary people with extraordinary courage, compassion and community impact,” said Tanguy Libbrecht, American Red Cross of Alaska Regional Executive in a release. “We are so excited to celebrate 25 years of amazing heroes who truly demonstrate the resilient Alaskan spirit.”

The honorees, selected by local civic and business leaders, are divided into ten categories, from marine to military. They are as follows:

  • Youth Good Samaritan: Headli Billuk (Anchorage)
  • Adult Good Samaritan: Hanna Eklund (Anchorage)
  • Fire Rescue: Ryan Campbell (North Pole)
  • Transportation Safety: Tristen Pattee and Jayson Danziger (Kotzebue)
  • Alaska Safety: Tye Reed (Eielson Air Force Base)
  • Wilderness Rescue: Chris Johnson (Kenai)
  • Medical Rescue: Michael Gho (Ruby)
  • Marine Rescue: Denver Perry, Kyle Perry, Moses Perry, Graison Perry, and Peyton Hacker (Fairbanks)
  • Military / Law Enforcement: Joan Butler (JBER)
  • Workplace / North Slope Safety: Jesse Aldous, Kevin Baronsky, Mark Byrum, Diane Dahlheimer, Chad Kurry, Ryan McClure, Jason Reed, Richard Rifley, Ethan Stevenson and Michael Stewman (Prudhoe Bay)
