Troopers: Wasilla teen arrested, following drugs, gun found on school property
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A 17-year-old student was arrested on Monday following an investigation regarding suspected drug distribution at Mat-Su Career Tech High School (CTHS).
According to Alaska State Troopers, packaged marijuana and a handgun with an altered serial number were found inside the student’s vehicle in the school parking lot. This comes after the district said it received a tip about items inside the vehicle at the school parking lot.
The student is now facing charges of misconduct involving a weapon and misconduct involving a controlled substance.
In a letter to CTHS families, school principal Jason Ross noted there was no threat of violence toward other students or the school during the investigation.
CTHS asks students who see or hear any safety concerns to report them to the school, parent, or an adult. The district adds that concerns can be reported to the District’s STOPit anonymous tip line.
District leaders told Alaska’s News Source on Tuesday that no one was available for an interview. Alaska State Troopers were not able to accommodate an on-camera interview since the incident was referred to the Division of Juvenile Justice.
