Rookie musher Jeff Deeter wins Yukon Quest Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The 2025 Yukon Quest Alaska has a winner and its musher Jeff Deeter of Fairbanks, who was a Yukon Quest Alaska rookie.
The grueling 550-mile race from Fairbanks to Tok wrapped up Thursday afternoon at 2:49 p.m., as Deeter crossed the finish line. He left Chicken with 9 of the 14 dogs he began the journey with.
Five teams are still on the trail, including Josi Shelly, who’s roughly 40 miles back of Deeter. Behind Shelly, Lauro Eklund, and Jonah Bacon are on the trail to Tok after completing their 6-hour layover in Chicken.
Keaton Loebrich and Joey Sabin were still on the trail from Eagle to Chicken at the time of this publication.
In a post on Facebook, Deeter’s wife KattiJo said this would mark his first-ever victory. She said he won the first race he ever entered as a teenager, but was in a class by himself.
