ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The views of Mount Spurr from Anchorage can be quite stunning, but they don’t compare to the views up close from a helicopter.

Scientists say Mount Spurr will likely erupt in the coming weeks or months, but until then, it’s putting on quite a show.

After taking off from Anchorage’s Merrill Field Airport, it’s a quick 45-minute ride on Alpha Aviation’s AStar helicopter to Mount Spurr. Their 90-minute Spurr Tour climbs to more than 11,000 feet, providing stunning views of the steaming volcano and surrounding mountains.

Melissa Frey joins pilot Christian Brown with photojournalist Rachel McPherron for a preview of the tour offered through Alaska Helicopter Tours and Alpha Aviation for a limited time.
