Police pull out of Eagle River neighborhood; won’t confirm 3-day search is linked to missing man
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Calm returned Friday to the Eagle River neighborhood where Tony Kronos lived. After three days of around-the-clock police activity, officers left the house of an Anchorage police officer who lives directly behind Kronos.
Kronos, 40, has been missing from his home since March 6, when worried neighbors who hadn’t heard from him called his parents. Kronos’ sister said they alerted police after discovering Kronos’ back door had been kicked in and both his wallet and cell phone were still inside.
Earlier this week, Anchorage police officers and FBI agents could be seen entering a duplex that is directly behind Kronos’ home — the two properties share a fence line.
At times over the three days, they have carried out boxes from the duplex and have been in and out of a large APD van that was parked in front.

According to municipal property records, the duplex is owned by Anchorage Police Officer Christopher Sternhagen. Neighbors say officers left the scene Thursday evening.
By Friday morning, the duplex looked empty and no cars were parked outside.
Police have not confirmed that activity at the duplex has anything to do with Kronos’ disappearance, although the two share a fence and neighbors report Kronos and the officer’s family didn’t always get along.
In response to an emailed question Friday, APD spokesperson Christopher Barraza wrote there were no new updates on the case.
“This is an ongoing investigation, so we are limited on (what) we can share so it doesn’t impede the case,” Barraza wrote.
Asa Chandler, who is a friend of Kronos, said he understands that police aren’t able to share a lot of information. Chandler confirmed police have provided friends and family a contact within the department who is updating them when he can.
“I think they are doing their best,” Chandler said. “I think there are some aspects of this case that require silence from them until they have their case built.”
