Alev Kelter announces engagement on social media following bronze medal finish
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - For Team USA rugby star Alev Kelter, these Olympics were about more than just the competition on the pitch.
“There is a special surprise at the end of this,” the Eagle River native said in a pre-Paris interview with Alaska’s News Source.
More than a month and one Olympic bronze medal later, Kelter announced that surprise to the world earlier Tuesday, posting a video of her marriage proposal to fellow Alaskan and rugby athlete Kathryn Treder on Instagram.
Treder is also a member of Team USA’s Rugby talent pool. The couple were seen together before Olympic competition kicked off in Paris.
Now newly engaged, the couple is a month away from debuting with the Loughborough Lightning of the Premiership Women’s Rugby Union. Kelter signed with the organization leading up to the 2024-25 season.
“We’ve been doing long distance for a while,” Kelter said. “It’s just going to be really nice to play on the same team together.”
The Lightning begin play Sept. 7 against the Sale Sharks.
