ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The city’s election administrator resigned just days before the municipal election officially wraps up.

William Northrop resigned from his position as municipal election administrator, according to a statement from Anchorage Municipal Clerk Jamie Heinz.

Heinz said she will be taking over the Anchorage election team for the April 1 election, next Tuesday. Vote centers officially opened this week to the public.

The election technically began March 11 when ballots were mailed out to residents.

Heinz previously served in the position before her appointment to city clerk.

There was no word on the reason for Northrop’s resignation, but Heinz said he “respectfully resigned” from his position.

“[We] can assure the public that this change has not and will not affect the integrity of the election,” Heinz wrote. “We thank Mr. Northrop for his service to the community and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

A call for comment to Northrop from Alaska’s News Source had not been answered as of publication.
