ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage Vote Centers have opened ahead of next Tuesday’s municipal election.

There are a couple of locations for voters to go in person: Anchorage’s city hall and the Z.J. Loussac Library, as well as Eagle River’s Town Center. That is the same building as the library, but it is not inside the library.

It is a vote-at-home election, and ballots have gone out through the mail.

“If you are returning it by mail, either on the Monday before Election Day — so the 31st — or on Election Day itself, make sure you walk into the post office and have the clerk behind the desk hand cancel your ballot so that you know it’s postmarked on Election Day,” Election Administrator William Northrop said.

Voters can mail their ballot back, but there are other options too. They can drop it at a dropbox or fax or email their ballot, according to municipal officials.

“For any voter who’s waiting until last minute, just make sure you are at a Vote Center before 8 p.m. on election night. Same with the dropbox,” Northrop said.

Residents can also vote at a Vote Center or vote a special needs ballot. Those are for people who are older, have a disability, are hospitalized, or sick.

Vote Centers are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., and election day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Only Chugiak-Eagle River ballots will be available at the Eagle River location, according to the municipality.

On the ballots are a slew of propositions — 15 in total but roughly half that affect only certain neighborhoods — all six Assembly seats, two Anchorage School Board seats and many service area board representatives.
