FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU/KTVF) - Wednesday marked the last day of school for students in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.

Teenagers at West Valley High School celebrated with a barbecue outside of the school’s entrance.

West Valley sophomore Aeron McClimas said she’s excited to get some extra sleep during the summer.

“Definitely going to miss my friends,” McClimas said. “I’m excited, though, because I don’t have to wake up at six in the morning anymore.“

Other students have mixed feelings about the end of school.

“I feel like it’s a mix of sad and happy,” West Valley student Jace Herbert said. “Like during the day of school, I have something to look forward to and have something productive.“

For some students, this marks the end of an era. West Valley graduates came by to say their goodbyes to their classmates and teachers.

“Going on solo and ensemble trips that we just got back from with Mister [Lucas] Clooten, those have all been like really awesome,” graduating senior Quinton Kelly said. “I’m going to miss that a lot, but hopefully I’ll see them around when I go to college at UAF.”

“I love them so much,” Amelia Cochran said. “And I know that sounds really corny I guess, but they’re amazing. I’m a better person because of them.″
