ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Alaska Native Heritage Center opened for the summer season on Sunday, beginning with a day of presentations, dances, and featuring new exhibitions.

ANHC offered free admission and a program of Alaska Native Olympic presentations, dance performances and village games.

For the 2025 season, ANHC also has three new exhibitions, new short films, and artifacts. The season ranges from May 11 to Sept. 14, 2025.

“This is it,” said Chris Delgado, Cultural Tourism and Indigenous Education Manager at ANHC. “I couldn’t sleep last night. It was almost like the night before the first day of school, if that makes sense. So just really excited if you couldn’t tell, just really excited to be here this morning to have you here, to have everyone here.

“We’re going to have a great time and we’re getting ready. It’s going to be it’s going to be an amazing - another amazing season here.”

Among the new exhibitions is a Dena’ina Ground Squirrel Parka, also called “qunsha dghak.” The parka is on loan until April 2026 from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
