A glimpse into Spenard JazzFest with the Pipeline Vocal Project
A cappella trio live in the Alaska’s News Source studio
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage’s Spenard JazzFest stretches from May 30 to June 9. Over the weekend one vocal trio added one more performance to their schedule, inside the Alaska’s News Source studio.
For audiences who weren’t able to make it to any of the events in the first weekend of the festival, Alaska’s News Source brought music to them.
Pipeline Vocal Project, composed of Molly Dieni, Lisa Hawkins, and Taylor Siebert, is an a cappella trio that describes themselves as "Alaska’s first professional vocal trio comprised of a lead, bass and vocal percussion."
Not all of the festival’s performers are jazz musicians, though the name JazzFest implies otherwise. As the festival’s founding director Ingvil Vatn Guttu explained, JazzFest originally centered around jazz but now in its 18th year celebrates all genres of music.
“We’re a perfect example of a variation,” Hawkins of Pipeline Vocal Project explained. “We perform jazz as well, but we encompass a lot more through vocal music.”
Pipeline Vocal Project is performing at the Anchorage Museum on the lawn on June 6, click here for a full schedule of upcoming Spenard JazzFest events.
